New Delhi: Griva Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., Visakhapatnam, has entered into an agreement with the Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, to support the manufacturing and commercialization of GrivaVision, an indigenously developed portable digital colposcope with AI-assisted capabilities for the early detection of cervical pre-cancerous lesions.
The partnership will support Griva Healthcare in establishing manufacturing capabilities at Kollam, Kerala, enabling commercial-scale production and wider deployment of GrivaVision.
The initiative aims to make cervical cancer screening more accessible and affordable, particularly across primary and community healthcare settings, while strengthening domestic capabilities in advanced medical devices and reducing dependence on imported diagnostic equipment.
GrivaVision Combines Digital Imaging and AI-Assisted Screening
Developed by Griva Healthcare, GrivaVision integrates a high-definition camera, in-built display, user-friendly interface, advanced optics and indigenous AI-enabled software into a portable diagnostic platform.
The device is designed for visualization of the vaginal canal and examination of cervical lesions, assisting gynaecologists in identifying pre-cancerous abnormalities during routine clinical examinations.
GrivaVision has been designed in accordance with WHO-approved Automated Visual Evaluation (AVE) standards, while its software is ABDM-compliant, allowing integration with India’s evolving digital health ecosystem.
The product is classified as a Class B non-invasive medical device and carries a CDSCO Class B manufacturing licence. It is being developed in accordance with ISO 13485 quality standards.
The hardware architecture developed by Griva Healthcare is proprietary and has been patented in India by the company. Griva Healthcare is currently undertaking its R&D activities at AIC-AMTZ Medivalley, Visakhapatnam.
The TDB-supported project will facilitate the transition of the technology towards commercial manufacturing at the company’s upcoming facility in Kerala.
Focus on Indigenous Medical Device Development
A key aspect of the Griva Healthcare project is its focus on indigenous development and localization. The technology has been developed and built in India, with more than 50% of the product components currently sourced indigenously.
Commercialization at scale is expected to further strengthen the domestic medical device value chain and create a cost-effective Indian alternative for cervical cancer diagnostics.
The technology is particularly relevant given the large population of women eligible for cervical cancer screening in India.
By combining portability, digital imaging, AI-assisted assessment and ease of deployment, GrivaVision is designed to extend screening beyond specialized healthcare facilities and support healthcare professionals in reaching women in underserved and resource-constrained regions.
TDB Support for Griva Healthcare

The support provided to Griva Healthcare is aimed at enabling the company to move its indigenous cervical cancer screening technology from development towards commercial-scale manufacturing.
Griva Healthcare to Expand Access to AI-Assisted Screening
Expressing gratitude for TDB’s support, the leadership of Griva Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. stated that the assistance will enable the company to transition its indigenous technology to commercial-scale manufacturing and expand access to AI-assisted cervical cancer screening.
The company noted that its endeavour is to make reliable screening technology available closer to women, particularly in regions where access to specialized diagnostic infrastructure remains limited.
With the establishment of its manufacturing capabilities in Kollam, Kerala, Griva Healthcare will move towards commercial-scale production of GrivaVision, supporting wider deployment of its portable AI-assisted cervical cancer screening technology.
